Thursday morning was clear, warm and beautiful and we all were excited to get going to see the volcano, the volcano centre and of course, shopping at Decathlon. We took a quick windy bus drive down to a picnic area to have our breakfast. It was hot and pleasant, and all the student enjoyed their Nutella spread with table spoons full, on their baguette.
Soon we were on our way to the volcano and most of the students fell fast asleep along the way. As we gained altitude, it became apparent that the nice weather we had had in Le Make was not going to be where we were going. In fact the wind picked up and the rain came down. Mist enfolded us and we just knew… BBRRRrrrr!!!! We finally arrived and the weather was sadly miserable. We exited the bus and were blasted by freezing cold wind, icy sheeting rain and well, we were instantly awake and frozen from our nose’s to our toes! Conrad was in his shorts!!! We quickly made our way to the look out point, took quick photos and literally ran back to the bus with squealing and shouting. This was the first group that never picked up any stones, except of course Caleb. The cold and rain didn’t deter him from finding a few gems.

After the disappointing trip to the volcano we made our way back down where we stopped for our lunch at a lovely forest. Although it was wet and rainy, we managed to find cover to feed the very hungry tummies. As it was cold, we didn’t linger long and quickly boarded the bus for the very short ride to visit the volcano centre.

At the centre there was clearly heaters on and we all sighed with relief as we soaked up the warmth. We saw a 180 degree movie of our solar system which was really lovely. Then we meandered around the exhibits where the students took to the quizzes at a few kiosks, testing their general knowledge and reading all the information spread around each room with interactive buttons and videos. Lastly, we went in to enjoy the 4D Cinema all about Reunion’s active volcano. At least through this experience the students were able to easily picture what the volcano looked like. There were a few unexpected thrills as hot air, water sprays and fierce rocking sent us on our 4D adventure.
To end the long and fully packed day, we managed to spend a good hour and a half in Decathlon, shopping for whatever we needed or wanted. 4-Square Balls for Africa!! YAY!!!

Hey my Ash.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you're having a great time. Sorry to hear that your head was sore! I'm glad it's better. Hope you're warm enough! Love you - Dad
The 4D movie must have been amazing. The centre looks like lots of fun. We sorry that the weather did not play along. I'm sure the 4 square ball stock is now at its absolute maximum. The guys at Decathlon most probably wonder "What on earth do these people do with all those balls".
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your last couple of days.

Hey Ryry,
ReplyDeleteI am really happy that you are getting to experience such amazing things. I really wish I was there with you. I'm sure we would have spent hours looking at all the volcano exhibits together. It's a bummer it was cold and Rainy, but I'm sure it was still an amazing sight. I like the picture where it looks like you were learning about plate tectonics - that's my favourite.
Anyway, I am really really really really really really missing you and can't wait to have you back at home with us. Keep learning and remember everything so you can teach me a thing or two.
I love you,
Dad
Hello Lili,
ReplyDeleteI can see that you are having fun on your trip and will have a lot of stories to tell us when you are back home. J.J. and I miss you so much, we do not have anyone to annoy at home and it is so boring without you. Chipie and Blanc are both great since you are not there they are very quiet and sad, they are eargerly waiting for you to be back to play with them. As for J.J, he is sitting on his own and loves it. I started giving him cereal with the spoon and he loves playing with his food while eating and so ends up having half of it all over him. Dad is telling you that your "calamar croutillant" is still waiting for you when you will be back. Hope you are not sick during the trips and is able to sleep well at night. We love you so much and hope you bring a little gift for us especially for your adorable nephew. Big kiss from Mom, Dad, J.J, Chipie, Blanc and myself. I will sed a pictures of J.J on Mr. Kaiyo's phone and also of Chipie and Blanc.
